Engineering Manager, Sentinel

Description

About Protocol Labs

Protocol Labs drives breakthroughs in computing to push humanity forward. Protocol Labs is a product-development lab, but behind the protocols and tools we build, behind the research and implementations, are passionate people, teammates, and community members. Most teams in the Protocol Labs Network are fully distributed and work remotely around the world. Engineers, researchers, and operators work in the open to improve the internet — humanity's most important technology — as we explore new advances at the intersection of many exciting fields (crypto, networks, distributed systems) and cultures (startups, research, open-source, distributed work).

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our growing Sentinel [Infra] Team.

The Infra Team at Protocol Labs runs critical infrastructure that helps power networks like IPFS, Filecoin, libp2p, Drand, and other related projects. This requires rigorous engineering across protocol and infrastructure design, through all phases of implementation. All of this happens in an environment defined by curiosity, passion, and a love for open source. We encourage each other to think big, run experiments, and support each other in a blame-free environment.

We are looking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead Sentinel. Sentinel provides tooling for monitoring, extracting and analyzing data from the Filecoin network. This data includes on-chain metrics and events and off-chain information like price points or Filecoin’s peer-to-peer network health.

As an Engineering Manager for Sentinel, you will...

  • Lead high-impact tech initiatives that shape our Sentinel evolution with the rapid growth of IPFS/IPFS-Filecoin network.
  • Inspire your team and others with technical vision and customer obsession.
  • Recruit and retain talented software engineers.
  • Keep the team connected to the needs of engineering and business.
  • Rolli up your sleeves with hands on contributions when necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive work culture.
  • Coach, mentor and provide career guidance.

You may be fit for this role if ...

  • You have at least 5 years experience in an engineering management role in Infrastructure and Data.
  • You have at least 10 years experience in an engineering role in Infrastructure and Data.
  • You have experience defining the role and scope of a core platform and data teams in a rapidly growing company.
    • Bonus if you have run decentralized teams.
  • You have experience as a manager or leading engineering role in a startup.
  • You have a deliver mindset and apply that to how you would build out platform and data services.
  • You love systems and software and are competent in both.
  • You’re curious and dive deep into different system architectures.
  • You are a leader, coach and enjoy creating opportunities for others.
  • You are an organized and excellent written and verbal communicator.
